MOSCOW, June 12 (Itar-Tass) —— No incidents were reported during an opposition rally of the March of Millions that just ended in downtown Moscow, a spokesman for the Moscow police department told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
“The rally in Sakharov Avenue ended at 16:15 Moscow time, without any incidents. It drew about 15,000 protesters. No one was detained,” the spokesman said and stressed that there were no breaches of law and order.
Meanwhile, varying information is coming about the number of participants in the opposition action. The opposition claims that at least 100,000 took part in the march and the rally. Similar information came from Russian human rights ombudsman Vladimir Lukin. Police however said the rally involved about 20,000 people, and not all of them arrived at the rally.
In general, the situation in Moscow was calm, protesters did not show signs of violence, the police were adequate.
The Moscow city authorities permitted the opposition action from noon till 18:00 Moscow time. After the political part of the rally in Sakharov Avenue was over, a concert began. But pouring rain drew people away, with only several hundreds staying under the rain.
