MOSCOW, June 12 (Itar-Tass) — The Opposition intends to hold the so-called March of Millions here on Tuesday. The march has been fixed with the authorities.
Marchers are to gather in Pushkin Square at noon. The march is to commence at 13:00. The procession is to march from Strastnoy (the Passion) Boulevard through Petrovsky and Rozhdestvensky (Nativity) Boulevards to Sakharov Prospekt (avenue) where a rally is to take place. All the protest activities are to end at six p.m.. An agreed number of participants is 50,000.
Adoption by marchers of a programmatic document, a "Free Russia Manifesto", is expected to be one of key events. In particular, the document is expected to call for the setting up of a "Coordinating Council, consisting of representatives of various political forces and civil society". The contemplated body will "assume responsibility for the preparation and holding of protest actions and for a peaceful pressure to bear on the authorities". The Manifesto authors call for stepping up both the protest actions and the pressure.
As for the present parliament, the oppositionists assign to it the last and only function, namely, "to draw up a draft new law on elections to parliament, ensuring the election of a parliament through a fair, transparent, and competitive polling".
