KIEV, June 10 (Itar-Tass) —— Negligence of City Council officers led to the collapse of a residential building in Lutsk, Ukraine’s Volyn region, the regional prosecutor’s office reported on Sunday.
The building’s carrying wall cracked on the ground floor in May 2012. “Yet officers of the Lutsk City Council neglected their duties and did not do timely examination of the house to find the cause of the damage and to organize repairs,” it said.
Hence, the Lutsk prosecutor’s office opened a criminal case on the charges of negligence leading to severe consequences.
Carrying walls collapsed suddenly from the ground to fifth floor of the building at 109, Rivnenskaya Street, on Sunday. Two people died, and eight flats were ruined. Debris is still being cleaned up.
