ULYANOVSK, June 9 (Itar-Tass) — The Ulyanovsk court on Saturday postponed its meeting to consider the case of Left Front coordinator Sergei Udaltsov to June 15 because the defendant did not appear before the court, an Itar-Tass correspondent reported from the court.
A hearing of the parties' arguments was planned for this Saturday, but Udaltsov and his attorney Violetta Volkova did not appear. They sent a telephone message that he was on sick leave. The prosecutor asked to check the information, and the court decided to make an inquiy.
Udaltsov is charged with beating a female reporter at a sanctioned anti-NATO rally on April 21. A criminal case is opened against him on charges of beating or committing other violence that causes physical pain. The law prescribes a fine of up to 40,000 roubles or arrest for up to three months. Udaltsov pleads not guilty.
