Coach says still confident Czech team will get to Euro’2012 quarter finals

“I’m really disappointed but this was a spectacular result for the Russians,” Bilek said

WROCLAW, Poland, June 9 (Itar-Tass) – Chief coach of the Czech Republic’s national team, Michal Bilek believes that in spite of losing to Russia 1-4 in the opening game of the Euro 2012 championship, the Czech team will nonetheless make the way to the quarter-finals of the championship.

“I’m really disappointed but this was a spectacular result for the Russians,” Bilek said. “We got hold of the football at the beginning of the game but we failed to make use of the opportunities.”

“And then we lost control of the ball and started losing the score,” Bilek said. “Then we showed our worth but were still unable to regain control of the ball and were punished for our errors.”

“The Russians are the favorites in Group A, they are a really strong squad, and the combinations they built posed many problems for us and furnished them with clues to success,” Bilek said.

“We on our part turned out unable to get the ball back and lost patience,” he said. “Also, we didn’t manage to block Alexander Kerzhakov,” he said.

However, Bilek still feels quite optimistic as regards his team’s further performance at Euro 2012.

“Now we must get unrestrained,” he said. “I feel confident all the same we’ll get out of this group.”
