ST. PETERSBURG, June 8 (Itar-Tass) — President Vladimir Putin has signed a law tightening punishment for rally violations.

The law sets differentiated rates of fines for breaching rally regulations, including the rules of rally organization, drinking alcohol and consuming narcotics in public places, blocking roads and so on. The maximal punishment is set at 300,000 rubles for individuals and 600,000 for officials.

There is a new type of administrative punishment, too, – compulsory community service.

Also protesters are prohibited to wear masks, weapons or objects, which may be used as weapons. Rallies cannot be organized by citizens, who have been convicted of a breach of public peace and security or have been subject to administrative penalties for rally violations twice or more times within a year.

In turn, rally organizers will have the right to demand that the police take away from rally scenes provocateurs or other persons refusing to obey by lawful demands of the organizers.
