MOSCOW, June 8 (Itar-Tass) — The State Duma has endorsed Criminal Code amendments tightening punishment for election violations.
Larger fines will be levied for hindering the use of electoral rights and the work of electoral commissions, violations in the financing of the election campaign, and falsification of election documents and ballot results.
The fine will double, from 40,000 rubles to 80,000 rubles, for hampering the use of electoral rights and the work of electoral commissions. In the case of bribery, abuse of office or perpetration by an organized group, the fine may grow to 100,000 to 500,000 rubles instead of the current 2,200 rubles. Interference of an official in the election process will be punished with a fine of 200,000 to 500,000 rubles (currently from 100,000 to 200,000 rubles).
Faking of voters’ signatures or illegal printing of ballot papers under exacerbating circumstances may cause an imprisonment of up to three years or correctional works.
