VLADIVOSTOK, June 7 (Itar-Tass) — Eight wildfires sprout across Yakutia on the area of 1,364 hectares, the press service of the Emergencies Ministry Main Directorate for Yakutia said on Thursday.
In the past 24 hours fire-fighters succeeded in extinguishing two fires on the area of 791 hectares. A total of 345 people, 17 pieces of machinery, including nine aircraft and helicopters, are fighting fires. No threat is posed to settlements or economic facilities, the press service said.
“Dry” thunderstorms set on fire the taiga in seven different sites on the area of 83 hectares. The Ka-32 helicopter and 45 forest protection employees took part in tackling fires.
Over 600 hectares of forests have burnt out since the beginning of the forest fire season.
