Conference on Yamal fields development opening in Salekhard

TYUMEN, June 6 (Itar-Tass) — The first International Conference and Exhibition “Yamal Oil and Gas 2012” is opening in Salekhard on Wednesday. It focuses on integrated development of oil and gas fields in Yamal and attracting investment and advanced technologies.

Among the participants, the regional governor’s press service reported, are the Russian Energy Ministry, RF Ministry of Natural Resources, International Energy Agency, Ministry of Energy of Qatar, Norway’s Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Industry and Energy of France, the European Commission, the British Embassy, ··as well as Gazprom, Novatek, Rosneft, TNK-BP, Yamal LNG, Sovcomflot, Rosatomflot, Total, ENI, Wintershall, Baker Hughes and Schlumberger.

The conference participants intend to discuss the investment potential and attractiveness of the region, its transportation infrastructure, innovative technologies and their application in the development of Arctic resources. The speakers will give particular attention to the preservation of the delicate balance of the ecosystem of the Yamal Peninsula.

The current conference, according to experts, provides unique opportunities for international cooperation development for the attraction of investments for major projects in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, the exchange of experience in the development of natural fields in difficult climatic conditions, development of environmental policy and the consideration of legal aspects of subsoil use.

According to Governor Dmitry Kobylkin, progressive development of the Russian economy, aimed at modernising the means of production and introduction of innovative technologies is linked with the development of the Yamal fields.

“It can be said without exaggeration that this problem is nationwide, and the conference and exhibition is to become a platform for discussing key issues of the development of Yamal oil and gas industry based on modern technology,” he said in his address to the conference participants. According to him, the current conference is a “high-profile event that has a remarkably practical focus and is attended by top professionals. It promotes broad discussions of the development of the oil and gas industry at regional and national level, stressing in so doing the problems, challenges and opportunities for the government, businesses, the science and research community and the wider public too.” The conference will run until June 8.
