BEIJING, June 6 (Itar-Tass) — Cooperation between Russia and China in the economic and other sectors is an important factor of economic and international stability, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.
“Against the background of turbulent processes in the world finance, in Europe our economic cooperation is a significant factor of international economic stability,” the president stressed at his meeting with Chinese Vice President Xi Jingping.
“However, relations of Russia and China are important not only in the economic sector. They are a very powerful factor of stability in the international financial system and in the sphere of international security,” Putin noted.
The Russian president expressed hope that his visit and upcoming summit contacts of Russia and China will contribute to developing further “comprehensive strategic partnership”. “We will also continue cooperation of military agencies,” Putin added, noting that this agreement was reached on Tuesday during his talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao.
The Russian president mentioned in this connection the first in the history joint exercises of Russian and Chinese naval forces, held recently in the Yellow Sea. Speaking about his visit to China, Putin noted that it proceeds “very successfully”. “We have confirmed the strategic nature of our relations, and I am confident that we have very good prospects in the economic sector,” the Russian president noted.
Xi Jingping, for his part, said that he has recently met with many officials from the Russian government – deputies to the prime minister Dmitry Rogozin and Vladislav Surkov, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev.
According to Chinese vice president, such intensity of contacts “is one of the most vivid manifestations of especially friendly relations”. “We are deeply confident that wide horizons open for the development of Chinese-Russian relations,” he stressed.
