Russia-Japan investment forum opens in Kazan Wed

Japan is one of potential trading-and-economic partners of Russia, emphasized speakers at the APEC Trade ministers' conference that ended here on Tuesday

KAZAN, Tatarstan, June 6 (Itar-Tass) — The 5th Russia-Japan investment forum opens at the Korston business center here on Wednesday. The forum is to be attended by Tatarstan's President Rustam Minnikhanov, Andrei Belousov, Russian Minister of Economic Development, Yukio Edano, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, the governors of regons and prefecutres, and the executives of tens of companies and banks on both sides, an officialat in the forum's press service has told Itar-Tass.

Marina Zhikhareva, an organizing committee official, said, "The investment forum is a key event in bilateral Russia-Japan cooperation. Its principal purpose is to promote the development and srengthening of trade-and-economic relations and attract investments".

The main subjects of discussion at the forum are as follows: expansion of cooperation in the fields of innovations, high-technology production processes, the commercialization of scientific research and development. Innovative projects in engineering, chemical and food industries, medicine, and pharmaceutics of Japan and Russia are to be demonstrated at the forum which will run until June 7.

Bilateral turnover in trade in farm products and food between Japan and Russia ran at $256.9 million in 2011. Tatarstan's overall turnover om trade with Japan grew by 16 percent in 2011, as compared with that in 2010, to run at over $101 million.
