LVOV, June 5 (Itar-Tass) — Ukraine and Poland introduced joint controls on the common border during the European Football Championship on Tuesday. “Thanks to this technology the time will be halved at international border checkpoints in the Lvov and Volyn Regions,” first deputy chief of the western department of the Ukrainian Border Service Igor Andrusik said. He said that now the border controls take up to a minute for a person.
This technology of one identity check of the countries was introduced at five largest international border checkpoints, through which direct roads are leading to Lvov, through the Ustilug-Zosin border checkpoint – a direct road from Warsaw to Kiev. The joint Ukrainian-Polish border controls will be in effect on the western border until June 5.
The Ukrainian Border Service reported that during the European Football Championship the passenger traffic across the western border will grow 30-40% and will double across the eastern border. For easier border controls and less time for the border controls on the Russian-Ukrainian border pilot projects of joint border controls were introduced at three border checkpoints.
The project of the Kiev-Moscow passenger trains is being implemented. For the comfort of passengers they should pass the border controls on the border. The border and customs controls are passed at the railway stations of departure or arrival. The same controls will be introduced on the Moscow-Kharkov and Donetsk-Rostov-on-Don trains.
The ‘green’ corridors were opened at all motor border-crossing stations in Ukraine. The state service for tourism and resorts estimated that up to one million fans and tourists will visit Ukraine in June. “50% of these guests will arrive in their cars, because we have an underdeveloped car rental service,” deputy head of this state service Dmitry Zaruba said. Due to large distances between the cities, where the matches will be held, namely Lvov, Donetsk, Kharkov and Kiev, it is quite more comfortable to travel by car.
