ULYANOVSK, June 5 (Itar-Tass) — A magistrate court in Ulyanovsk ruled on convoying Opposition activist Sergei Udaltsov to the trial of the case over beating up a journalist. The next hearing is due on June 9.
Left Front coordinator Sergei Udaltsov and his lawyer Violetta Volkova did not turn up at the Tuesday session. A judge told Itar-Tass that the Opposition activists has left for Moscow while Volkova, who was hospitalized on Monday, has been discharged.
The prosecutors have suggested taking all measures to bring the defendant to the court. The petition has been granted, a court official said.
Udaltsov is accused of beating up a journalist during the sanctioned anti-NATO rally on April 21. Criminal proceedings against him were opened under Article 116, Part 1 «battery or other violence action causing physical pain." If found guilty, Udaltsov might face from a fine up to 40,000 roubles to an arrest up to three months. Udaltsov denied his guilt.
