ST. PETESBURG, June 4 (Itar-Tass) — People’s Artist of Russia Eduard Khil will be buried at the Smolenskoye cemetery in St. Petersburg on Thursday, June 7. A church funeral service, preceded by a civil commemoration, will be held for Khil at the Church of the Icon of the God Mother of Smolensk at 15:00 Moscow time on Thursday. Eduard Khil had visited the church regularly over the past ten years, Protopriest Viktor Moskovsky, the church’s Father Superior and confessor, told Itar-Tass on Monday.
Eduard Khil took part in charitable concerts as a soloist to raise money for children with cancer. The concerts were organized by the choir of clergymen of the Holy Metropolis of St.Petersburg.
Eduard Khil’s grandfather Vasily used to head a church choir. He suffered from repressions under Stalin’s rule.
Eduard Khil, People’s Artist of Russia, underwent treatment at a clinic of the A.L. Polenov Institute of Neurosurgery in St. Petersburg. He died last night at the age of 77.
