Ulyanovsk court to continue Udaltsov case consideration

The opposition activist is charged with beating a female reporter in Ulyanovsk during the sanctioned anti-NATO rally on April 21

ULYANOVSK, June 4 (Itar-Tass) —— The court in Ulyanovsk on Monday will continue the consideration of the case against Left Front coordinator Sergei Udaltsov, said a source at the Leninsky district magistrate's court in the city.

The opposition activist is charged with beating a female reporter in Ulyanovsk during the sanctioned anti-NATO rally on April 21.

The criminal case was opened against Udaltsov on charges of "beating or committing other violence causing physical pain". The law prescribes a fine of up to 40,000 roubles or arrest for up to three months for such actions. The defendant pleads not guilty.

At the previous meeting on May 25, Udaltsov's defence appealed for transferring the consideration of the case to Moscow. The court denied the request. The defence also appealed against the forensic medical examination conclusion. According to lawyer Violetta Volkova, the conclusion was drawn with violations. The expert invited by the defence does not rule out the video-recording, which shows the conflict between Udaltsov and the female reporter, is falsified. According to the expert, it is a video montage.

The video placed in the Internet shows how the girl asks Udaltsov questions, which he does not answer. Then, the camera lens is closed with something. Somebody says "Go away from here", and a woman's cry is heard. After that, the camera lens is opened, and Udaltsov is seen going away.

The expert's conclusion that the video was possibly falsified is added to the case materials.
