Matviyenko visit to Belarus to focus on interstate relations

While in the capital of Belarus, Matviyenko will also visit the Resource center for training in modern technologies in the building industry

MINSK, June 4 (Itar-Tass) — Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Federation Council upper house of the Federal Assembly (parliament) of the Russian Federation, begins a two-day official visit to Belarus on Monday. Prospects for the development of interstate relations and interparliamentary cooperation will be the central subjects of discussion, an official in the Council of the Republic upper house of the Belarusian parliament has told ltar-Tass.

"On June 4, Matviyenko is to meet with Anatoly Rubinovy, Chairman of the Council of the Republlic, to discuss prospects for the development of interstate relations and interparliamentary cooperation, as well as other matters of mutual interest," the House press service official said. At the close of the talks the sides are to sign an agreement on cooperation between the Council of the Republic and the Federation Council, the officials pointed out.

The programme for the visit provides for Matviyenko's meetings with President Alexander Lukashenko, Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich, as well as with the faculty members and students of Belarusian State University (BSU). A ceremony will be held there to confer the scientific degree of professor emeritus on the Speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament.

While in the capital of Belarus, Matviyenko will also visit the Resource center for training in modern technologies in the building industry. She earlier visited Belarus in her capacity of Governor of St Petersburg.
