RF aerobatic team to take part in Ingushetia Republic Day Mon

The monument is to be unveiled on Monday at a ceremony, to be followed by demonstration flights of Su-27, and by MiG-29 twin flying

NAZRAN, Ingushetia, June 4 (Itar-Tass) — Several thousands of people flocked to Magas airport named after Sulambek Oskanov on Sunday to see MiG-29 and Su-27 jets of the Sokoly Rossii (Falcons of Russia) aerobatic team sitting right on the airfield.

The jet pilots flew their combat air vehicles from the Lipetsk aviacenter to take part in Monday's festivities on the occasion of the Republic Day and the erection of a monument to the MiG-29 jet, flown by Hero of Russia General Sulambek Oskanov, at the airport.

The monument is to be unveiled on Monday at a ceremony, to be followed by demonstration flights of Su-27, and by MiG-29 twin flying.

On February 7, 1992, during a night flight, the control system of the MiG-29, flown by Oskanov, malfunctioned. The jet could fall onto an inhabited area. The pilot managed to stretch the flight out to reach the outskirts of a village, thereby saving villagers' lives, and died in an ensuing crash.
