MOSCOW, June 3 (Itar-Tass) —— The United Russia faction in the State Duma will have the first-ever secret multi-candidate election of a vice-speaker candidate on June 5, faction head, State Duma Vice-Speaker Andrei Vorobyov said on Friday.
“One of the candidates nominated by four United Russia faction groups will be the winner,” he said.
“The faction presidium will meet on Monday morning to discuss the United Russia candidate for the State Duma vice-speaker,” he said. “Four faction groups will be offered to nominate their candidates. The faction will convene on Tuesday for a secret ballot, which will choose the candidate the faction will offer for the house consideration in accordance with the State Duma regulations,” Vorobyov said.
A parliament source told Itar-Tass earlier that State Duma Culture Committee Deputy Chairman Sergei Zheleznyak is one of the most probable candidates to fill the vacancy, which has appeared with the appointment of Oleg Morozov as the head of the Russian presidential administration’s department for domestic policy. Another source said that either Zheleznyak or Chairman of the State Duma Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs Committee Andrei Isayev might take the vice-speaker’s position.
