BERLIN, June 1 (Itar-Tass) —— President Vladimir Putin has opposed unilateral, especially military, measures against Syria.
He said Russia would carry on the dialog with the Syrian administration and its partners in the UN Security Council and denied the delivery of any armaments to Syria that might be used in a civil conflict.
“We are not going to use any unilateral instruments in the Syrian settlement,” he said after negotiations with German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel.
“Certainly, we will develop the dialog with our partners, primarily, in the UN Security Council, with Germany and other states interested in the settlement of this conflict. Naturally, we will stay in touch with President al-Assad, Syrian authorities, regional states, Arab countries that are involved in the conflict one way or another. We will do our best to lead the conflict to political self-settlement,” he said.
“Ways to find political solutions were discussed at the negotiations with the federal chancellor,” Putin said.
“Can that be done or not? I think that is possible but that will take professionalism and patience. Nothing can be done by force, and an imminent effect cannot be expected either. It is necessary to find points of contact and bring the sides to the negotiating table. That is the goal we will be working on,” he said.
“As for the arms deliveries, Russia does not supply weapons that may be used in a civil conflict,” Putin said.
