KAZAN, May 31 (Itar-Tass) —— Mexico can become a leading supplier of meat to Russia, Agriculture Minister Nikolai Fyodorov said at a meeting with his Mexican counterpart Francisco Mayorga at a meeting of agricultural ministers in Kazan, Tatarstan, on Wednesday, May 30, as part of preparations for the APEC summit in September of this year.
“Mexico is one of the most promising partners of Russia in Latin America,” Fyodorov said.
Twenty-two Mexican companies have been officially permitted to export meat to Russia. “I am confident that Mexico can become one of the leading suppliers of meat to Russia,” the minister said.
He said Russia interested to “step up cooperation with Mexico in the field of livestock breeding”.
The two ministers discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector, including in the field of amelioration and irrigation, and possible Russian grain supplies to Mexico.
During the two-day – May 30-31 – meeting, 21 APEC ministers of agriculture are discussing food security in the region.
The APEC summit will take place under Russian chairmanship on the Russky Island in Vladivostok on September 2-9, 2012.
