MOSCOW, May 30 (Itar-Tass) —— A bill on testing applicants for certain jobs for drug abuse will be submitted to the State Duma soon, the head of the State Duma’s committee on security and resistance to corruption, Irina Yarovaya, of the United Russia faction said on Wednesday.

“This will be a very adequate and correct measure,” she said. The legislator believes there exists a vital need for introducing such testing for all those whose professional activity implies the right to carry weapons, and also drivers involved in commercial transportation and for air traffic controllers.”

“There is a very large list. You and me, our society, deserve proper protection from those who abuse drugs,” Yarovaya said on the Russian News Service radio station.

Yarovaya said the number of drug abusers was very high. The military prosecutor’s office can provide information about many cases of arrests of both privates and officers, who were on duty after taking drugs.

Earlier, speaking during parliamentary hearings on the anti-drug problem Yarovaya said it was necessary to conduct mandatory drug testing of all civil servants, police, people holding other important jobs, such as air pilots and motor vehicle drivers.
