MOSCOW, May 29 (Itar-Tass) — Day flight delays in the Istanbul Ataturk Airport will practically not affect Russia’s organized tour groups, a spokeswoman for the Russian Union of Travel Industry, Irina Tyurina, told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

“As a result of domestic problems day flights in the Istanbul Ataturk Airport are delayed for four-five hours, but the evening flights - as the Turkish side assures -remain without change,” she said.

“There is not many organized tour groups in Istanbul, therefore disruptions in the air travel will practically not affect tourists who came to Istanbul through their tour operators,” she said.

Tyurina underlined that “as a rule it becomes known about the upcoming strikes in advance for tour operators to have an opportunity to adjust their plans and take their tourists to flights of other air carriers.”

Moreover, “Russian tourists fly to Turkey, mainly by charter flights, this concerns Istanbul, where individual groups travel, as well as resort areas,” she said.

“In this case the situation will affect ordinary passengers,” Tyurina said.

According to the local media, Turkish Airlines delay their domestic and international flights over Istanbul’s airport staff strike. The action is expected to continue until midnight.
