No Russians reported in Italy’s regions hit by earthquake

MOSCOW, May 29 (Itar-Tass) —— There are no Russian tourists in the Italian regions hit by a recent earthquake, a spokeswoman for the Russian Union of the Travel Industry told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

“There are many tourists in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna province, there are none in the exact vicinity of the quake-hit areas,” said Irina Tyurina. “The locality is not included even in classical trips over Italy offered by travel operators.”

“No Russians were hurt either in this quake or in previous earthquakes that hit Italy’s northern regions,” she said. “Neither the Russian foreign ministry nor the federal tourism agency issued no warnings over the situation in Italian northern regions.”

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake was registered in the vicinity of the city of Modena at about 09:00 a.m. local time (11:00 Moscow time) on Tuesday. The quake’s epicenter was embedded at a depth of ten kilometers. Earth tremor were felt throughout a large area that was hit by another earthquake on May 20.

As many as ten people were killed in the quake, dozens were injured, two persons are missing. All quake victims are local residents. The quake destroyed up to 75 percent of building in the town of Cavezzo.
