MOSCOW, May 27 (Itar-Tass) —— The Moscow city police department denied reports claiming that an OMON serviceman had beaten a woman on Arbat.
“Online reports claiming the alleged beating of a woman by an OMON serviceman is not true,” the police told Itar-Tass.
An opposition member started to distribute leaflets near the Bulat Okudzhava Monument on Arbat Street in downtown Moscow on Sunday. “The police told him to stop but the man swore and knocked a cell phone out of a policeman’s hands. He was detained for breaking peace and taken to a police station,” the department said.
A group of citizens tried to prevent the detention. “The most active woman, which, according to some sources, was the detained man’s wife, several times attacked the policemen and then lied down on the ground and closed her eyes. The police have confirmations of eyewitnesses to the aggressive behavior of the woman,” the department said.
An ambulance car arrived but doctors refused to hospitalize the woman. “Another ambulance was called for, and the woman was taken to the hospital with a preliminary diagnosis of brain injury. The circumstances under which the woman was injured are being investigated,” the department said.
