MOSCOW, May 25 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian and Ukrainian sailors "rescued" a crew of a submarine "in distress" in the concluding phase of the Fairway of Peace 2012 exercises in Sevastopol on Friday.

The united rescue forces of the Russian and Ukrainian navies operated in Sevastopol's Kilen bay at the repair shipyard of the Russian Black Sea Fleet to "rescue" the crew from the Ukrainian Zaporozhye submarine, Black Sea Fleet spokesman Vyacheslav Trukhachev told Itar-Tass.

The Fleet's floating crane with a rescue chamber arrived in the bay. The chamber was docked to the submarine, which was on the surface. The crew left the submarine through the chamber.

After the operation, the forces headed for their permanent deployment sites. The exercise results were analyzed at the Ukrainian Navy's Academy.

The exercises Fairway of Peace 2012 were launched in Sevastopol on May 22 to train the forces to plan and conduct humanitarian operations in disaster areas.
