Six people injured in fire in Dagestan village

MOSCOW, May 25 (Itar-Tass) —— According to updated reports, six people, but not seven people, were injured in a fire, which broke out in the village Khutrakh in the highland Tsunta district of Dagestan on Thursday.

“Six people got light burns. They are local residents, who were seeking to put out the fire,” the press service of the North Caucasus regional emergency situation centre told Itar-Tass on Thursday. No wounded people needed hospitalization.

“The fire is localized, 60 houses were damaged in the flames. Some 560 people, including over 100 children, live in 142 houses in this settlement,” the press service said.

Some 200 people, including 78 children, were evacuated to their relatives to the neighbouring villages Shapikh and Mokokh.

The fire alarm call about the fire in Khutrakh came at 17:55 Moscow time. The firemen are working at the fire site.

Khutrakh is the most hard-to-reach settlement in the Tsunta district. “The settlement is situated at an altitude of 1,800 metres above the sea level. Thick clouds did not allow using the aviation for fire-fighting,” the information department in the Ministry of Emergency Situations told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

No water sources in the village complicated the fire-fighting, the information department reported. “The closest highland river is situated 1.5 kilometres away from the village,” the information department said. The houses in this village are standing very closely to each other, therefore, the fire has spread on a so large number of buildings.
