YESSENTIKI (Stavropol region), May 24 (Itar-Tass) —— The Stavropol regional court on Thursday has sentenced Russian Wahhabi advocate Viktor Dvorakovsky and his accomplice Vladimir Skirko to long prison terms.
Dvorakovsky was found guilty of masterminding a terrorist act and an attempt on the life of law enforcers. Skirko was convicted for drug trafficking. The court sentenced Dvorakovsky to 23 years in a maximum security prison, while Skirko was imprisoned for six years.
The investigation established that Dvorakovsky, who was converted to Islam in 2008, supported the ideology of the supremacy of Islam and Islamic believers over people professing other religions and believed in an armed struggle against the Russian statehood in the North Caucasus by means of terrorist acts.
Dvorakovsky began preparations for a terrorist act in May 2010. He learned from the Internet what components were needed to make explosives and actually bought these components and made at least four explosive devices. But he failed to commit a terrorist act for reasons he could not predict.
Police detained Dvorakovsky in the settlement of Inozemtsevo on July 14, 2011. Dvorakosky fought back, hurling a home-made bomb at the policemen and was about to use two more explosive devices, but they exploded in his hands.
For three weeks the terrorist, who was in critical condition, stayed at an intensive therapy ward in the city of Zheleznovodsk.
