MOSCOW, May 24 (Itar-Tass) —— The Russian embassy in Baghdad has confirmed that a group of Russian bikers was detained in Iraq, press attach·of the Russian embassy Sergei Cherkasov told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
The Russian embassy has been negotiating a problem of the bikers' release with the corresponding structures in Iraq since the news about their arrest was broken, Cherkasov said. This problem was on the agenda of the Russian ambassador's meeting with the Iraqi leadership who promised to render assistance for the release of the Russian citizens, Cherkasov said. In the interests of the soonest release of the Russian citizens the diplomat gave no more details.
