Irkutsk legislaors to discuss May 29 candidature of Yeroshchenko for governorship

Under the current Russian laws, candidates for governors of Russian regions are proposed to the president by a party

IRKUTSK, May 24 (Itar-Tass) —— The regional parliament of the Irkutsk region will discuss on May 29 the candidature of Sergei Yeroshchenko, which President Vladimir Putin submitted on Thursday.

On May 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted the resignation of Irkutsk region governor Dmitry Mezentsev, who had been in the office since June 2009, and appointed president of the Eastland managing company Sergei Yeroshchenko acting head.

Under the current Russian laws, candidates for governors of Russian regions are proposed to the president by a party that holds the majority of seats in the local legislature. The list candidates should feature at least three names.
