Handover of remains of Superjet crash victims started in Jakarta

BANGKOK, May 23 (Itar-Tass) — The official ceremony of the handover of the remains of those killed in the crash of Russia’s Sukhoi Superjet 100 airliner to their family members and representatives of diplomatic missions of Russia, the United States and France started at the Halim Perdanakusuma airbase on Wednesday.

The Russian airliner crashed during a demonstration flight on May 9. The plane crashed into a steep cliff of Mount Salak in the western part of Java Island. There were 45 people on board, including eight Russians, 35 citizens of Indonesia, a Frenchman and an American.

The property of the Superjet crash victims was on Tuesday handed over to their relatives and representatives of diplomatic missions in Jakarta. On Tuesday, the crash victims’ families and diplomats were given special permits for the transportation of human remains to the burial site.

Russia’s RA-76840 plane of the Emergency Situations Ministry (EMERCOM) is expected to fly from Jakarta with the remains of Russian citizens on May 24.
