Moscow Circular Road reconstruction to be complete within five years

The road will be both reconstructed and broadened; engineering infrastructure of the road and surrounding areas is being planned

MOSCOW, May 22 (Itar-Tass) — The Moscow Circular Road reconstruction will be complete within five years, Vice-Mayor for Construction Marat Khusnullin said on Tuesday.

The road will be both reconstructed and broadened. Engineering infrastructure of the road and surrounding areas is being planned.

The Moscow Circular Road will mark the 52nd anniversary this year. Traffic started between Yaroslavskoye and Simferopolskoye Highways on November 22, 1960. The ring of almost 109 kilometers was complete in 1962 and there were no serious repairs for the consequent 30 years.

Massive repair works began only in 1994. Within a few years the road was broadened to five lanes on each side, and new bridges and flyovers were constructed.

The authorities admit that 70 kilometers of the road are overburdened. So, bypasses may be built from Volokolamskoye to Novorizhskoye Highways and from Kaluzhskoye and Ostashkovskoye Highways.
