NIZHY NOVGORD, May 21 (Itar-Tass) —— The Diveyevo district court in the Nizhny Novgorod Region on Monday sentenced an ex-policeman, who had beaten a detainee to death, to ten years' imprisonment.
The former policeman is found guilty of power abuse with the use of violence and inflicting of serious bodily injuries that caused death. The court also barred him from working in law-enforcement and other state structures for three years.
A district court source told Itar-Tass that on November 10, 2011, policemen took four men to the Diveyevsky police station to check whether they were involved in a crime. One of the men was severely beaten and put in a cell for administrative offenders. An ambulance called to the station took the man to a hospital. He was operated on, but it did not save him, and he died in the hospital.
Forensic medical experts said the man had died of blood loss because of blows with a blunt hard object.
