Forest fires put out on 1,171 ha in Siberia

Thirteen fires on 917 hectares were localized

KRASNOYARSK, May 21 (Itar-Tass) — Seven forest fires on a total of 1,171 hectares were put out in Siberia over the past day. However, 29 fires keep burning on 3,741 hectares by Monday morning. Thirteen fires on 917 hectares were localized.

The largest number of fires and the largest fire area were reported in the Republic of Buryatia, the press service of the regional emergency situation department told Itar-Tass on Monday. Eight fires engulfed 3,290 hectares of taiga. Another nine fires on 352 hectares are raging in the Trans-Baikal Territory. 62.7 hectares and 37 forests are burning in the Tomsk Region and the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

“Some 861 people and 174 units of machinery are involved in the fire-fighting efforts,” the press service said.
