One of underground warlords killed in Dagestan

Mamedov was the so-called amir of the Northern Sector and ringleader of ‘the Khasavyurt armed gang’

MOSCOW, May 20 (Itar-Tass) — One of underground warlords in Dagestan and chieftain of the “Khasavyurt” armed gang Aslan Mamedov, nicknamed “Muas”, was killed in a special operation, Itar-Tass learnt at the Information Centre of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAC).

According to the Information Centre, “the ringleader of bandits along with his underling was blockaded at a private house in the village of Vinosovkhozny Khasavyurt on Sunday at 09.00”.

“The Russian Federal Security Service received information on possible whereabouts of the chieftain of the so-called Khasavyurt armed gang during search operations against the most odious ringleaders of terrorist underground, operating in Dagestan,” reported a NAC representative.

Residents of nearby houses were evacuated prior to the start of the active phase of the operation. Then commandos proposed bandits laying down their firearms and surrender.

They offered armed resistance in response, wounding a commando officer; then they were killed as a result of a special operation.

The NAC noted that their personalities were tentatively identified: these were Aslan Memedov, born in1986, and Murad Nurmagomedov Murad, born 1984, an underling of the armed gang, responsible for transportation and hiding of gunmen.

“According to data of the NAC headquarters in the Dagestan Republic, Mamedov was at the top echelon of the Dagestan criminal underground, was the third in the criminal hierarchy, was the so-called amir of the Northern Sector and ringleader of ‘the Khasavyurt armed gang’,” the NAC reported.

Mamedov orchestrated the most audacious raids of gunmen in the Khasavyurt, Kazbek, Kyzylyurt, Novolaksk and Babayurt districts of Dagestan.

According to the NAC, he was responsible for murders of clergymen, civilians, military servicemen and policemen as well as firings and attacks as well as blasts. Mamedov terrorized local businessmen and employed large-scale extortion under the threat of killing.

Mamedov masterminded the most outrageous terror actions of the recent past, committed by gunmen in the above districts.

Commandos found homemade explosive devices, a machinegun, grenades and cartridges at the house where the bandits were in hiding.
