MOSCOW, May 18 (Itar-Tass) —— During a special operation, a member of the so-called Makhachkala terrorist group involved in the May 3 terrorist act on the outskirts of Dagestan’s capital, when 13 people, mainly policemen, died as a result of two blasts, has been destroyed in Makhachkala.
As a representative of the Information Centre of the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) told Itar-Tass, “during the holding of an operation to search for the so-called Makhachkala gang involved in the May 3 act of terrorism in Makhachkala, the Department of the Russian Federal Security Service received information on the possible whereabouts of one of the group’s members.”
On Friday, at about 17.30, the gunman was blocked in a private house in Yubileinaya Street in the Kirov district of Makhachkala.
“Before the beginning of the operation, it was established that apart from the gunman, his accomplice, three women and two children were staying in the blocked house. To avoid unnecessary victims, talks were held with the gunman,” the source said.
As a result of the talks, which were held until morning, law enforcers managed to convince the gunman to let the women, the children and his accomplice leave the house. After that he was again offered to surrender. “Instead, the gunman threw a grenade in the direction of commandos and was destroyed in return fire. His identity was preliminary established as Mansur Makhmud Midal, 20, a native of Buinaks,” the source said.
According to the NAC Operative Headquarters, Mansur joined at first the so-called Kaspiisk gang in December 2011 and later the “Makhachkala” gang. He was involved in a number of such grave terrorist crimes as explosions, murders and attacks on law enforcers.
