WASHINGTON, May 19 (Itar-Tass) — The G8 leaders voiced support for full implementation of the Kofi Annan plan in Syria, were unanimous on Iran and warned North Korea of new provocations, a spokesman of the US administration told reporters on Friday.
Issues around Iran, Syria and North Korea were discussed at a working dinner in the US president’s residence in Camp David, Maryland State.
The G8 leaders had no differences that some political changes are necessary in Syria, said the American spokesman. He added that the nature of these changes is to be determined over the next few days.
According to the spokesman, the summiteers also agreed that Iran should urgently take steps to convince the world community of peaceful nature of its nuclear programme. The spokesman emphasized at the same time that the Russian side displayed solidarity in the question of talks with Tehran.
The leaders said about North Korea that Pyongyang would run into greater isolation, given it continues following the way of provocations.
European Union leaders – EU president Herman van Rompei and European Commission head Jose Manuel Barroso – also participated in the discussion. The G8 leaders will discuss on Saturday key economic issues, above all the crisis in the European zone.
