Kabardino-Balkaria head to personally control murder of Tyrnyauz city head

The police opened a criminal case on the charges of premeditated murder and illegal weapons

NALCHIK, May 18 (Itar-Tass) —— Kabardino-Balkaria head Arsen Kanokov will personally control the investigation of the murder of Zhamal Gemuyev, the head of the Tyrnyauz city administration in the Elbrus district, committed on Friday, the republican head’s press office told Itar-Tass.

“The new killing of a public officer is a challenge to the society, and we must give a common response to it,” he said. “I am confident that we can deter the attacks of criminals who keep trying to destabilize the republic. The culprits must be found and brought to justice.”

Kanokov also presented his condolences to the family and friends of the city administration head.

The main theory of the murder of Gemuyev, 37, is his official activity, the republican department of the Russian Investigation Committee said.

Gemuyev’s body with five gunfire wounds was found in an Opel car on the road between the villages Bedyk and Zhankhoteko in the Elbrus district at 7:00 a.m. Moscow time. Five nine-millimeter cartridge cases, presumably fired from a Makarov pistol, were found on the crime scene.

The police opened a criminal case on the charges of premeditated murder and illegal weapons. Gemuyev was elected to the position in May 2012.

Head of the Chegem district administration Mikhail Mambetov was killed in January 2011. Head of the Khasanya suburb of Nalchik Ramazan Friyev was murdered in February 2011.
