ARKHANGELSK, May 18 (Itar-Tass) —— Nine wooden homes burned in Arkhangelsk on Friday leaving about 300 people homeless. The fire was put out at 9:54 p.m. Moscow time. There are no casualties, a source at the Arkhangelsk regional emergency situations department told Itar-Tass.

Barns caught fire on Pogranichnaya Street at about 3:30 p.m. Moscow time, and the fire spread into residential buildings. The entire firefighting garrison, rescuers, doctors and police came to the disaster scene. “High winds, heat and dry grass added to the problem,” he said.

Two homes of 12 apartments, two of 24 apartments and five one-storey homes, including three private, burned to the ground. The homeless people were taken to a local art school. They will spend the night there. Food and drinking water will be provided.
