Pipeline fire in Dagestan may leave city, 2 districts without gas

MAKHACHKALA, May 18 (Itar-Tass) — A fire that broke out on a gas pipeline in Dagestan's Kizilyurt district overnight may leave the city of Kizilyurt and residential areas in the Kizilyurt and Kazbek districts without gas, the Russian Emergencies Ministry's department in the republic told Itar-Tass on Friday.

A bang was heard, and it was followed by a fire. It occurred at the 676th km of the Mozdok-Kazimagomed pipeline at about 01:30 Moscow time, the press service said.

The fire is continuing. The flame is six-seven metres high. The gas supply was halted, but it is the remaining fuel that is burning. As soon as the fire stops, specialists will examine the damaged 1,200-mm pipe. Then, repair teams will start working at the site.
