Specialists to begin decoding Superjet CVR data on Friday

MOSCOW, May 17 (Itar-Tass) — Experts will begin on Friday decoding data from the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) of the crashed Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger plane, sources from the Russian Ministry for Industry and Trade reported on Thursday.

“At 9 am on May 18, Indonesian specialists will begin the procedure of reading, deciphering and analyzing information from the cockpit voice recorder of the crashed SSJ-100 airliner,” the sources said, adding that work will be done with control of Russian engineers and participation of Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade Yuri Slyusar.

“The whole process will proceed in a laboratory on the basis of the Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT),” they said. The Russian side has given all necessary hardware and software, the sources stressed.

The airplane parametric recorder has not been found as of yet. “Indonesian representatives continue gathering and supplying data on the trajectory of the first and second flights, requested by the Russian side,” ministry sources added.

The Russian-made airliner crashed in Indonesia on May 9 during a demonstration flight. The plane crashed into Mount Salak not far from Jakarta. All 45 people on board were killed. There were 35 Indonesian nationals, eight Russian nationals, a Frenchman and a U.S. national on board.
