16-year-old boy killed in explosion while disassembling shell in Volgograd

An investigation is underway

VOLGOGRAD, May 15 (Itar-Tass) —— A 16-year-old boy was died when a shell he was disassembling went off in Russia’s southern city of Volgograd, a spokeswoman for the regional administration of the Russian Investigations Committee told Itar-Tass on Tursday.

According to Natalia Kunitskya, the accident took place at about 15:00 Moscow time in a private house in the Maxim Gorky settlement.

“Investigators recovered a shell case, which made it possible to presume that the teenager died while disassembling this ammunition. The boy’s injuries – a severed arm and a serious craniocerebral injury prove this theory,” she said.

The spokeswoman added that the boy was taken to an intensive care department of the local hospital but died of wounds without regaining consciousness.

An investigation is underway.
