NALCHIK, May 14 (Itar-Tass) — Three of four girls gravely injured in a bus accident in Russia’s southern republic of Kabardino-Balkaria on Sunday will be flown to Moscow for treatment, sources from the North Caucasian regional centre of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations told Tass on Monday.
Specialists decide whether to transport them on board a civil aircraft or on a plane of the emergencies ministry, they said. The condition of patients was stabilized during the night. All in all, 17 people remain in hospital. Five of them are in a grave condition and 11 are in a moderately grave condition.
Two buses collided on the 4th kilometer of the Obkhod-Inozemtsevo road at approximately 12:20 p.m. Moscow time on Sunday. The bus carrying The Arabesk children’s ensemble to a national contest in Zheleznovodsk braked and the other bus en route from Nalchik to Moscow hit it in the back. The bus carrying children fell down into a ditch. Two children and a woman died instantly. Another woman died at the hospital later.
There were 21 people aboard, including 17 schoolchildren, three accompanying women and the driver.
The head of Kabardino-Balkaria, Arsen Kanokov, has assumed personal control over the investigation.
