Ground peculiarities enable Yakutsk to erect high-rise buidings

The new residential neighbourhood will take up 23 hectares

VLADIVOSTOK, May 14 (Itar-Tass) — Yakutsk contemplates constructing 24-26-storey buildings, said speakers at a meeting of the city-building council of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) when considering concept of a master plan for the building-up of the city's new development area named "District 203".

Georgy Romanov, general director of the SakhaProject" Company, pointed out that "The peculiarities of filled-up gtounds make it possible to erect high-rise buildings in Yakutsk".

However, the construction of such buildings is hampered by the lack of firefighting equipment capable of evacuating people, in case of necessity, from upper storeys. At the same time, Pavel Marinychev, the republic's vice-premier, believes that this matter "can be resolved through the purchase of appropriate equipment".

The new residential neighbourhood will take up 23 hectares. The number of its inhabitants after the construction is completed will be 12,000. It is also planned that the district will have available a school for 1,100 pupils, three kindergartens for 240 children, and all welfare amenities essential for comfortable living.

Estimates made by development planners are that after construction in District 203 of Yakutsk is completed, there will be 3,740 apartments. The overall floor area will be more than 264,000 square metres.
