SCO Education Without Borders Week to open in Moscow Monday

MOSCOW, May 14 (Itar-Tass) — An Education Without Borders international forum opens here on Monday for a fifth time. It is held by the member-countries of the Shanghai Cooperiton Organization (SCO).

Taking part in the education week will be the directors of education management agencies of the SCO Member-Countries, Observer Countries, and Dialogue Partners, as well as representatives of the basic institutes of the SCO University (SCOU).

The forum schedule includes a meeting of the SCO expert working group on cooperation in the field of education, a session of the Russia-China working group on interaction in the study and teaching of Russian and Chinese languages, and on the development of bilateral academic exchanges and scientific and technical cooperation among institutions of higher learning, as well as the first international session of the Rectors' Council of the SCOU to discuss matters aimed at coordinating a regulatory framework of SCOU's managerial agencies.

The results of pilot projects in several fields of training are to be presented at the forum as follows: IT, nano-scale technologies, regional studies, ecology, and power engineering.

SCOU was established in 2008. Its structure consisting of more than 50 leading universitities of SCO countries took shape in 2009. SCOU is an Asian project analogous to the European Common Education Space system, which is being established on the initiative of Russia, in particular, within the framework of transformation of the education system during the Bologna Process.

An official at the Russian Ministry of Education and Science has pointed out that the purpose of the forum is to coordinate joint Master Degree programmes in conjunction with Partner Countries, to further the development of academic exchanges, stimulate the sharing of experience among teachers, and establish personal contacts between researchers for joint studies. Support of procedural framework for the study and teaching, and the consolidation of the positions of the Russian language throughout the SCO will be among imortant subjects for discussion.

Proposals on a further development of interaction in the field of education will be prepared on the strength of the education week results, and a final Protocol will be signed.
