ST PETERSBURG, May 14 (Itar-Tass) — A fire blazing at the Kirishi oil refinery in Leningrad Region has been extinguished. The torch-caused blaze was put out at 22:40 Moscow time on Sunday; there are no victims, a source at the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (RME) regional center has told Itar-Tass.
A message about the blaze came in at 20:18. An open-air torch flared up at a height of 15-20 metres at the center of the operating gasoline recycling plant; petroleum products were ablaze, the source said.
The fire was rated as being of 3rd category of difficulty on the five-point scale. Firefighting efforts involved 14 fire trucks and 50 firemen. The fire was localised at 21:35 and completely put out at 22:40. The area affected by the torch blaze was about 40 square metre.
