MOSCOW, May 12 (Itar-Tass) —— A chieftain of the Sergokali militant group, Turkish born Abduslam, has been killed in a special operation in Russia’s volatile North Caucasian republic of Dagestan, a spokesman for the National Anti-terrorism Committee said late on Saturday.
“A gunmen, presumably the chieftain of the so-called Segrokali group, Turkish citizen sheikh Abdusalam, was killed in a clash with police forces in a forest between the settlements of Kichi-Gamri, Sergokali districts and Utamysh, Kayakent district,” the spokesman said.
According to the spokesman, the militant group lead by Abdusalam is responsible for numerous terrorism crimes, including assaults on laws enforcement and security officers, bombing of police cars and extortion of big sums of money from local businessmen with physical threats.
One police officer was killed in the operation.
