YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, May 12 (Itar-Tass) — Foreign investors from South Korea and China will for the first time come to the Kuril Islands, Sakhalin Region governor Alexander Khoroshavin told a news conference on Saturday.
He also underlined that the Kurils are also open for Japan’s investments.
The development of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands is initiated by President Vladimir Putin, Khoroshavin said.
“These are the construction of the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok gas pipeline and hydrocarbon processing projects with participation of Gazprom and Rosneft,” the governor said.
Most of Russia’s recent initiatives in the Asia-Pacific Region encompass the Sakhalin Region, he said expressing confidence that in the future the federal authorities will pay attention to the islands not less than before.
The governor also welcomed Putin’s idea of creating a Eurasian association of economic cooperation.
“The creation of a certain bridge, through which goods, technologies and capital will flow, will give a fresh impetus to Russia’s development, including its Far Eastern territories,” Khoroshavin said.
He also supported the government’s initiative of establishing a corporation for the development of Siberia and the Far East.
