Check underway into death of woman at Samara police station

She had a previous criminal conviction for "illegal purchase of drugs"

SAMARA, May 11 (Itar-Tass) — A pre-investigation check has been launched in Samara over the death of a woman at a police station, the press service of the regional department of the Investigative Committee /SK/ told Itar-Tass on Friday.

"A 33-year-old women died in a cell for administrative offense detainees at a Samara police stations earlier in the day," the SK said.

The woman was reportedly detained at a city trade center on Thursday afternoon on suspicion of stealing 530 roubles of costume jewelry.

She had a previous criminal conviction for "illegal purchase of drugs."

The woman felt ill at night. An ambulance arrived at the police station after she had died.

The decision on whether to open criminal proceedings will be made by the results of the pre-investigation check.
