MOSCOW, May 11 (Itar-Tass) — Sergei Shoigu will be sworn in as the Moscow region governor on Friday.
In this position he will replace Boris Gromov, who had governed the region for 12 years.
Shoigu, who had continuously chaired the state committee for emergency situations that was later renamed into the Emergencies Ministry for 21 years, was nominated for governorship by then President Dmitry Medvedev. On April 5 his candidacy was unanimously approved by the Moscow region Duma.
The inauguration ceremony will take place in the Moscow region’s government house in Krasnogorsk.
Earlier Shoigu told media that in his new capacity he promised to ensure additional growth of the region’s budget, to resolve problems of defrauded real estate investors and to build new facilities.
“I would like not only to resolve problems, but also to build new plants, create new enterprises and parks. I would like to create a big real zoo. These are things that put in a good mood,” Shoigu said.
