MOSCOW, May 10 (Itar-Tass) — Moscow believes that the Syrian elections are necessary for implementing reforms that have become ripe, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
“We think that this step should be completed and strengthened by other actions by the government and constructive opposition aimed at fulfilling one of the key points of the peace plan suggested by the U.N-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan: to launch an exclusive political process pursued by the Syrians themselves, “ the Ministry went on to say.
In this connection, the Russia Foreign Ministry voiced support for Annan’s efforts to assist the consolidation of the Syrian opposition on the basis of a peace settlement and a broad inter-Syrian dialogue.
